Copyright And Related Rights

Copyright is a bundle of rights, assigned to the creator of an original work. Such work can range from books, music, paintings, sculpture, and films, to computer programs, databases, advertisements, maps, and technical drawings. The owner of a copyright in any work has the exclusive right to make, sell, reproduce, distribute, make derivate works, publicly communicate the work. When it comes to enforcement of copyright, one can file an FIR with the police directly based on the copyright registration certificate, thus making the copyright law one of the most effective laws.

Copyright confers the following two types of rights with the owner:

economic rights, which allow the rights owner to derive financial reward from the use of their works by others; and

moral rights, which protect the non-economic interests of the author.

“Copyright Law Is One Of The Strongest IP Laws.

As per the Berne Convention, the protection obtained by filing a Copyright application in India is enforceable in the contracting countries, for specific protection in a particular country. This means that the owner does not have to take a separate copyright registration in the Bern Convention member countries.
